The NEC Classic Motor Show

The NEC Classic Motor Show was bigger and better than ever this year.

It is such a fantastic event to visit and a truly great show to exhibit at. Tens of thousands of enthusiasts, from all over the world, pass through the halls each year and there’s always plenty to see and do. This year’s show featured over 1400 cars of every variety, a huge auto jumble and many practical demonstrations. It is also an opportunity to catch up with friends, be they customers, suppliers or the trade generally. The Twyford Moors Classic Cars stand proved a hit as always. Hall 6 was a great place to be with our friends from SNG Barratt just across the way, the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club stand just along from us and many other Jaguars around the hall.

This year we also promoted Vredestein tyres, with each of the cars on our stand sporting a set of Classic Sprints and a wonderful display stand provided by the chaps at Vredestein. Vredestein are the tyre sponsor of our racing series, the JEC XK Challenge, and the Classic Sprint has become the tyre choice on our road cars. We had a great deal of interest in the tyres and were surprised by the number of people who weren’t familiar with Vredestein. Now they are!

The rather striking XK120 FIA specification race car in Satin Sage attracted much attention but really divided opinion. If however anyone was unconvinced by the colour scheme they would have been swayed by the experience of driving such a good car. Next to that stood an XK120 FHC which we are currently restoring; this is part completed and gave an opportunity to inspect the standard of our work before it’s covered up with an interior. This was a real talking point and we were thrilled with the positive feedback from those who looked around the car. The finish of the paintwork was particularly admired. The star of our stand was a beautiful, very original, matching numbers, right hand drive XK140 DHC. The car had a constant crowd around it and truly stood out as a stunning example in a show full of amazing cars. Several people, unprompted, commented that it was their favourite show car.  After three hard days, we left with a quiet glow!  The NEC Classic Car Motor show should be in everyone’s diary, every year.
