Modifications and upgrades
Twyford Moors offer a wide range of upgrades and modifications aimed at making Jaguar XK120, XK140 and XK150 more useable on modern roads. These have been designed and refined to have as little visual impact as possible on the originality of the cars whilst offering huge improvements to the driving experience and safety.
Brakes (XK120 and XK140 disc brake conversion)
Modern driving conditions are far more demanding than those of the 1950s. There are more cars, moving faster, stopping in shorter distances and driving closer together. Anyone who has driven a car with drum brakes will be aware of the level of concentration and the distance between vehicles one must maintain in order to stop safely. To remedy this issue we offer a range of brake upgrades ranging from fitting XK150 specification brake systems to XK140s and XK120s, to our own performance system, designed in house to offer ultimate performance with four pot, aluminium billet calipers.
Over the years we have experimented with many different suspension setups and upgrades, using our race specification XK 150S for research and development. We can now offer a range of excellent suspension upgrades to equip XKs for anything from comfortable road driving to race specification road holding; through a combination of up-rated bushes and shock absorbers, plus a few little tricks we have picked up along the way, we really know how to make XKs handle.
We fit the ground braking electronic power steering upgrade from EZ Electronic Power Steering. This system, which was nominated for “innovation of the year 2011” at the International Historic Motoring Awards, does away with unsightly pumps and plumbing under the bonnet and replaces it with a simple and compact electric motor, which is hidden under the dash. The level of assistance can even be adjusted as you drive or turned off altogether giving you steering, which feels connected and responsive at 60mph on a B-road but as light as a modern car when maneuvering in a car park. Our five speed gearboxes are ideal for those wishing to use their car for touring or any kind of long journeys; with 5th gear acting as an overdrive our cars can cruise at 70mph at approximately 2500rpm resulting in a quieter, more comfortable and more fuel efficient journey. Alternatively we can fit gearboxes built to any specification allowing us to fit close ratio boxes for racing and rallying. These modified boxes feel tight, mechanical, positive and totally in keeping with the period of the car. Over the years we have learned time and time again that most breakdowns on classic cars are cause by electrical problems; Most of them due to tiered and old parts, worn and cracked wiring looms and bodged, "temporary" repairs, which were never properly fixed. We offer a range of electrical upgrades and modifications for XK120, XK140 and XK150 including full rewires with modern wiring looms. These upgraded looms retain the period fabric wrapped look but have the flexibility and insulation offered by modern materials. We also fit all the 'standard' upgrades and modifications one would expect, from modern alternators and starter motors to electronic cooling fans.
In addition to rewiring we offer a variety of modification to make your Jaguar XK a more pleasant and reliable car. From period looking radios converted to FM with iPod connections to additional fuse boards, upgraded lights to modified wiper motors and even proper indicators (with hazard warning light switch) for XK120s and the rear of XK140s and XK150s, we can fit almost anything you could desire.

Our in house engine technician Barry Shurman can build and tune XK engines to any specification from standard to ‘SE’ specification, from fast road to full race and anything inbetween. We build original 3.4 and 3.8 engines for XKs but also undertake rebuilds on 2.4 and 4.2 XK engines. In addition we fit upgraded coils, electronic ignitions and fuel pumps. Twyford Moors range of interior modifications aim to make XKs as comfortable and safe to be in as possible. We offer inertia reel seatbelts, bucket seats (trimmed to match), upgraded heaters, period stereo systems upgraded to pickup FM radio and connect to an MP3 player, burr walnut dashboards for XK150s and pedal boxes to give more leg room (particularly in XK120s).
The Jaguar XKs cooling system was perfectly adequate when the car was designed and built however no one at the time anticipated the kind of traffic congestion we face every day on modern roads. To avoid any risk of overheating and to help the cars reach running temperature more quickly we have a range of upgrades to improve the XK cooling system. We offer re-cores on original radiators, modified aluminium radiators (which can be left in bare aluminium or painted black to look original), header tanks, upgraded hoses, header tanks and electronic cooling fans.
