Jaguar XK150 3.8 S FHC RHD 1960 – for sale

This Jaguar XK150 fixedhead coupe is a very rare and desirable 3.8 S model. As an original UK, right-hand drive car it is one of only 115 examples made. The car was built in February 1960 and sold by J. E. Bullock & Son Limited to a Dr Doreen H Hayes of Cheshire. The car appears to have spent some time in Germany and Jersey over the years before being returned to the UK in approximately 2000.

The ‘S’ models are the rarest and most sought-after of the XK150 range and indeed only aluminium-bodied XK120s and considered rarer and more desirable. The S models were developed to increase power output from the XK150 to compete with ever more powerful V8-powered cars in the US market. The addition of triple carburettors, a straight port cylinder years and other tweaks increased power in the 3.4 unit but the gains are even more significant in the much sought-after 3.8-litre model. This triple carburettor 3.8-litre set-up would go on to power the Jaguar E-Type. The s models also benefit from a number of other improvements including larger brake cylinders and a ‘power-lock’ differential.

The car was restored in the 1990s in Jersey by a well-respected classic car specialist and the history file includes photos of the bodywork done at the time. In recent years the car has had a full retrim. The car has since been used sparingly generally covering only a few hundred miles per year. The car is currently on a set of chrome wire wheels but also has a set of white-painted wire wheels. These XK150 fixedheads are always a pleasure to drive. They are refined, civilised and comfortable for covering long distances. Combining this with the performance provided by a 3.8 S engine and the overdrive gearbox this XK would make a great car for trips abroad or touring.

The current owner has a long history of Jaguar XK ownership. Whilst owning a XK150 3.4S in 1968 he formed, and was Chairman of, the original XK Club which ran for 6 years.  He sold his 150S in 1977 as the family grew, replacing it with a Jaguar 420 saloon. In the early 2000s he started to look for an XK150S again but this time the ultimate the 3.8S. After 4 years of searching in 2005 he found this car in Jersey. Importing the car to UK he began a programme of sensitive renovations. Works completed include full brake and suspension overhaul, new wheels and tyres, complete retrim, stainless steel exhaust, tinted windscreen and new chrome plus a recent health check and remediation work undertaken at a respected Jaguar specialist.
