Mike Hawthorn Memorial Track Day 2024

The Goodwood Motor Circuit was once again alive with the sound of XK engines a couple of weeks ago. Everything from the famous Jaguar D-Type driven by Mike Hawthorn to road-going XKs were welcomed for the second annual Mike Hawthorn Memorial Track Day. As event sponsors, we were delighted to see such an impressive turnout to the event celebrating the life of and cars driven by Mike Hawthorn.

This year the event has grown a little, in particular with far more spectators coming along in their classics alongside those taking part in the track day. Despite this growth, the event remains a relaxed, friendly and informal day for enthusiasts to celebrate the life of an extraordinary British sportsman. Goodwood is an extraordinary place to hold such an event and although the hustle and bustle of the Revival can be enjoyable it is rather nice to be able to enjoy some motorsport at Goodwood with a little more room to breathe. Being able to walk freely around the site, get up by the control tower to watch the cars come around Woodcote, through the Chicane and along the straight to Madgwick it just magic.

The event hosted an unrivalled array of racing MKI and MKII saloons. Thanks to Classic Revival Photography for the lovely shot of the MKIs lined up on the grid. There was also a display of a former Tommy Sopwith Equipe Endeavour Team car. The Equipe Endeavour team was active from the mid-1950’s through to early 1960’s with many different cars. These included the 3.4 Jaguar Saloon race cars. There were many other cars from the team including MK2 Jaguars, E-Types and Aston Martins. The team had many successful drivers including Tommy Sopwith himself, Jack Sears, Ivor Beub, Mike Parkes, Graham Hill, Stirling Moss and many more. Thanks again to Classic Revival Photography for the great photo of the Tommy Sopwith cars on the Goodwood Grid.

Below is a gallery of photos from the day shot by the very talented Ian MacFadyen mixed in with a few we took ourselves. Many thanks to Ian for providing the photos.
