This week in the workshop 12/09/20

This has been a strange week for us as we would normally have been preparing for, and attending, the Goodwood Revival. This is the first time in 22 years that Twyford Moors has not been there in some form and the same goes for many of our staff. We will miss it but this is such a small sacrifice in the face of the events of 2020 and we look forward to retuning to Goodwood next year.
This week we have a full house of XKs ranging from stunning XK120 fixedheads for sale to a XK150 restoration.

The same but different

We parked this pair of Jaguar XK120 fixedhead coupes in front of the workshop ready for test drives. Beyond being the same model, these two cars could not be more different. Pictured on the left is an original UK, right-hand drive XK120 which is standard in every respect including steel wheels with spats, drum brakes and a very rare metal sliding sunroof. To the right, is an extensively upgraded XK120 with rack and pinion steering, five-speed gearbox, upgraded wiper motor, aluminium radiator, electric cooling fan, alternator, upgraded suspension, disc brakes and much more. Whatever specification you are looking for, standard or upgraded, Twyford Moors can supply or build you the car of your dreams!

XK150 3.8 S drophead hood frame set up

We are progressing with setting up the bodyshell on our Jaguar XK150 3.8 S drophead restoration. This week we turned our attention to one of the most vital aspects of restoring an XK: the fit, set up and alignment of the doors, windows and hood frame. Concurrently, we fit and shaped the hood wood to ensure the hood operates smoothly and fits perfectly all the way around. Careful shaping ensures a good fit along the top of the windscreen and the windows and correct lines after trimming.

Jaguar XK140 windscreen fitting

This Jaguar XK140 fixedhead coupe has been brought into us by the owner. We are attending to some minor repairs on the metal work around the windscreen aperture. We are also fitting a new screen and chromes. Replacing an XK windscreen is a challenging task, particularly in sealing them to prevent leaks. We are often contacted by owners who have removed their windscreens but run into trouble refitting them, sealing them or fitting the chromes. Another common issue is windscreen apertures which are not quite the correct shape or size. With many years of experience, Twyford Moors technicians know all the ins and outs of these kinds of jobs and you can rely on a quick, professional and watertight job when we fit a windscreen.
