Jaguar XK140 DHC RHD 1955 - SOLD

This fully restored Jaguar XK140 drophead coupe is an original UK matching numbers car. It is in beautiful condition throughout, drives extremely well and had a number of useful upgrades.

Manufactured in February 1955, this car was originally sold by Parkers Garage in Bolton and retains its original registrations number.

In 1966 the car suffered a broken spring and the last tax disc in the history file shows the car was last taxed in October 1955 having covered just 50,765 miles. At this time the car was taken off the road and put into storage.

The car was sold as a restoration project at auction in 1997. Over the subsequent five years the owner spent £30,000 on restoration work but never reassembled the car.

The car was sold again in April 2001 as an ongoing project and was subsequently shipped to Upper Classics of Christchurch New Zealand. They spent the next few years restoring the car which was finished and retuned to the UK in 2006.

During the restoration this XK140 was extensively upgraded to make it more usable on modern roads. These upgrades include power steering, disc brakes, alternator and inertia seat belts. The gearbox was also upgraded with an overdrive unit and the rear axle ration was altered to suit this.

Since restoration the car has been used lightly and cared for to the very highest standards. The car has now covered just over 70,000 miles from new and has had four owners.

In recent years the car has been cared for here at Twyford Moors and has been improved with the addition of Blockley radial tyres, the correct hood chromes and a Moto Lita wood rimmed steering wheel.

This XK is an exceptional example and this kind of condition can only be achieved though full restoration by an expert. The car drives beautifully with a strong engine and responsive brakes. This car has one of the best Moss gearboxes I have ever driven, is smooth through the gears and has a swift and responsive overdrive. The ride is extremely civilised and the car holds very well through corners. This XK would be ideal suited to those wanting to undertake tours and rallies as the car could comfortably cover long distances and will offer reliability and comfort.
