We believe that classic cars should be used. To assist with this, we have developed a range of upgrades to make XKs and E-Types more practical, reliable and usable. When we develop upgrades, we aim to minimise the visual and structural impact of these modifications on the cars whilst maximising utility for the driver. In this article, we will highlight the benefits of our pedal box upgrade.
A common problem for those wishing to own and drive an XK120 is cabin space. They are a bit tight and many people over six-foot tall struggle to drive an XK120 comfortably. Even those a little shorter but with flexibility problems may find an XK120 a bit of a squeeze. Jaguar addressed this problem by making the foot well longer in the XK140 and XK150. Fortunately, we have developed a solution for the XK120.
Our pedal box upgrade involves fabricating an extended footwell and fitting a customer set of pedals. This process is done to the driver's exact specification allowing them to position the pedals wherever they please (within reason). We fit original-style XK pedal rubbers to the pedals so once this is all fitted and trimmed it looks as close to standard as possible.
Besides the extra legroom, this setup offers several other benefits. The pedal positions are adjustable to suit the driver. The brakes are upgraded to dual master cylinder giving better braking performance and safety and the clutch is upgraded from mechanical to hydraulic.
As a stand-alone upgrade, this may not give the larger driver all the room they need but combined with our other upgrades we can make an XK120 much more spacious. Our bucket seats allow you to get lower down and further back (we will publish an article on these shortly) and our electric power steering system allows a smaller steering wheel to be fitted. Although this upgrade is most commonly carried out on an XK120 where you maximise the benefits of the extra leg we can also fit this upgrade to XK140s and XK150s. This is particularly useful for those building a car for motorsport.
