This Jaguar XK150 Fixed Head Coupé is an exceptionally rare 3.4 S. Only 86 of these cars were built, with just six exported to Australia – of which this is one.
First sold in June 1959 to Dr B. J. Eve of St Ives, Sydney, the car remained in the same area for decades, passing through several generations of the family. It was clearly cherished and used with care throughout its early life.
By the early 1990s the XK had covered around 90,000 miles. Thanks to the favourable Australian climate and careful ownership it remained in good order, but some recommissioning was required. This work was entrusted to Graeme Lord, a highly regarded Australian XK specialist, who carried out a full engine rebuild. The running gear was subsequently overhauled and the car was also rewired.
The XK also underwent a bare-metal respray and full retrim. Such was the excellent condition of the body that it did not need to be removed from the chassis, with only minor repairs being required. The car, therefore, retains much of its originality – a fine testament to how well these models can survive in the right environment.
In 2014 the car was purchased from a dealer in Sydney by one of our long-standing customers and imported to the UK. It was delivered directly to us at Twyford Moors for thorough recommissioning, servicing and some carefully chosen upgrades. These include an alternator, electronic power steering, inertia-reel seatbelts, bucket-backed seats and hazard warning lights – all sensible enhancements for regular touring.
Since arriving in the UK, the car has been used extensively for touring both here and in Europe, and has been meticulously maintained throughout. The result is a well-proven, reliable XK that is ideally suited to long-distance driving.
Having now covered approximately 132,000 miles from new (including 41,000 since the engine rebuild) and with seven owners over its lifetime, this XK150 has a great history. Rare, handsome, high-performance, original and thoroughly usable, it represents a true all-rounder.
