Jaguar XK150 DHC 1958 RHD – For Sale

This Jaguar XK150 Drophead Coupé is an original UK right-hand-drive car. Dispatched on 16th September 1958, the car was sold by Elmbridge Motors of Tamworth, Surrey, to Mr Cecil J. Catchpole of Ewell, Surrey. This XK150 retrains its original registration of 675 HPC.

This XK150 had something of a troubled time through the 1990s, at one point being “misplaced” by an unscrupulous restorer and, on another occasion, being rescued from a workshop fire when it was pushed outside by firemen. After this rather torrid period, the car eventually ended up in safe hands and underwent a full nut-and-bolt restoration with John May of XK Developments.

The restoration is well documented in a photo album showing the body taken back to bare metal, the chassis fully rebuilt, and the engine comprehensively overhauled. It appears that the original engine was either beyond repair or had been separated from the car, so it was fitted with a replacement period-correct XK150 engine, matched to an all-synchromesh overdrive gearbox.

Over the years, the car has been sensibly upgraded and now benefits from electric power steering, an alternator, electronic ignition, uprated front brakes, an electric cooling fan and a header tank.

Originally finished in black with a cream interior, the car is now presented in silver with a blue interior, a colour combination that arguably suits the XK150 rather better than the original scheme. The interior has been further enhanced with bucket seats, inertia seat belts, a walnut centre dash and a Moto-Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel. The car also benefits from a rather nice set of fitted luggage.
