Jaguar XK150 3.8 S FHC RHD – 1960

An exceptional and highly original UK-supplied right-hand drive Jaguar XK150 3.8 S Fixed Head Coupé — one of just 115 examples built — offered with outstanding provenance, rare period specification, and its original registration, XOR 150.

Supplied new by Henlys of London in February 1960 to Mr Patrick Talbot, the car was registered the following month and remarkably retains its original number plate to this day. From the outset, it was specified with an unusually rare and desirable combination of factory options, most notably Reutter seats — seldom seen on XK models — offering adjustable backrests and folding headrests. Further period features include rapid-lift window winders, an exceptionally rare fitment almost never encountered on XK150s, and fitted luggage.

Mr Talbot retained the car for eight years, during which time it remained in the Winchester area, later recorded at Easton. Subsequent ownership includes Mr John Richards of Berkshire, during whose custodianship the car participated in a parade lap at the British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch in July 1970 — a wonderful and evocative piece of period history, supported by a photograph showing XOR 150 on circuit accompanied by C-Types and a D-Type.

By the mid-1970s, the car had passed to Mr Robert Danny of Twickenham, before being acquired in 1976 by Mr Vivian Dixon, who would remain its long-term custodian for nearly four decades. The accompanying history file, including original buff logbook, MOT certificates and tax discs, indicates the car remained in regular use until 1982, at which point the mileage stood at 71,004.

When emerging from long-term ownership in 2014, the car presented as a genuine ‘time-warp’ survivor — exceptionally well preserved, complete, and unspoilt. Subsequently, the current owner undertook a carefully considered mechanical recommissioning, with a clear emphasis on usability and reliability, while preserving the car’s fundamental originality.

The work included a full suspension overhaul, engine removal and detailing of the engine bay, and the installation of a five-speed gearbox for improved drivability. Sympathetic upgrades include an alternator, electric power steering, electronic ignition, electric cooling fan, new fuel pumps, and an aluminium radiator. Braking performance has been enhanced with upgraded front brakes, new discs and hubs. The interior has been refreshed with new carpets, window rubbers, and inertia seat belts. Throughout, the approach has been measured and respectful, ensuring the car retains its authentic character.
Now showing just over 76,000 miles, XOR 150 represents a rare opportunity to acquire a highly original XK150 3.8 S that has never lost its identity. It is not a restored car, but an exceptionally well-preserved and sympathetically improved example — one that can be driven and enjoyed with confidence.
Finished in its original and particularly elegant colour combination of Sherwood Green with Suede Green interior, it is both visually striking and entirely evocative of the period.

With its combination of rarity, provenance, original specification — including highly unusual factory options — and continuous documented history, this is a notably special XK150. Examples of this calibre and authenticity are seldom encountered, and rarer still with such a compelling and unrepeatable history.
