Jaguar XK150 DHC 1959 – SOLD

This Jaguar XK150 drophead coupe was originally exported to New York in September 1959. The first owner is recorded as M. L. Nee of Rye, New York. It was finished in black with a red interior and a black hood (or soft top for our friends across the Atlantic).

The car was returned to the UK in 1999 when it underwent extensive restoration work. At this time, it was converted to right-hand drive and resprayed in British Racing Green. The engine was fully rebuilt, and the gearbox was upgraded to a five-speed gearbox.

The current owner bought the car in 2015 and has spared no expense in maintaining and improving it. In recent years, the car has benefited from a full retrim, including bucket backs for the seats (these offer more support and allow you to sit a little further back, thus improving legroom). The car has also been upgraded to make it reliable and comfortable for touring. It now features electric power steering, inertia seat belts, and a vintage radio to add to the relaxing driving experience. Reliability is aided by an aluminium radiator, electric cooling fan, header tank, and electronic ignition. The car also benefits from polyurethane suspension bushes and adjustable shock absorbers. The beautiful suede green interior is complemented by a walnut-veneered dashboard and a wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel. The green hood really makes this car stand out from the crowd and is finished with the correct chrome trims.

Being an older restoration, the car has some paint imperfections. There is sinkage and cracking in a few places, but despite this, the car's overall look is very pleasing. The chrome is good, and the smart interior and hood really lift the look of this car.

Out on the road, this is a lively car to drive. The engine is one of the liveliest 3.4-litre XK units I have ever experienced and lends itself to spirited driving. The well-considered set of upgrades makes this an easy car to live with. The five-speed gearbox allows you to progress swiftly through the gears and provides relaxed motorway cruising. The car is comfortable and stable, giving the driver confidence when driving at speed, and the electric power steering makes the car feel light and agile in town or when manoeuvring
