Jaguar XK150 FHC 3.8 S RHD 1960 – For Sale

This Jaguar XK150 Fixedhead Coupe offers, in my opinion, exceptional value for money. It is an original UK, right-hand drive car in the rare 3.8 S specification. It is understood that just 115 examples were produced in this configuration.

The XK150 3.8 S represented the swan song of the XK range. Not only was the engine capacity increased from 3.4 to 3.8 litres, but it was also equipped with the straight-port cylinder head and triple 2” SU carburettors—this is the same power unit that was later fitted to the E-Type. The S specification also brought a limited-slip differential and upgraded brakes. These features, combined with the car’s rarity, make the XK150 S models particularly sought after.

This particular XK150 FHC was built in July 1960. The original buff logbook (included in the history file) shows the first owner as Birds Ltd of Derby, a bakery established in 1919 and still in operation today. The car was originally finished in Cotswold Blue with a Light Blue interior. In 1963, it was sold to H J Wood Ltd, a pottery business based in Stoke-on-Trent. In 1964, it was purchased by Mr R. W. Taylor of Esher, Surrey, and then in 1965 it passed to Cyril Robinson of Cobham, Surrey. It appears the car remained in Mr Robinson’s care for several decades, until it was sold as a restoration project in the mid-1990s.

The car appears to have undergone a full restoration, with numerous receipts for parts and work carried out, including sandblasting of the chassis. It is believed that the car was repainted red during this time. It was returned to the road in 1997, with an MOT certificate showing the mileage at 74,361. Subsequent MOT records indicate modest annual use, with the mileage now reading approximately 94,000. Both the service history and the car’s condition suggest it has been well maintained over the years.

In 2020/21, the car was taken off the road and is now in need of some recommissioning. As can be seen, the bodywork, chrome and interior are all in good condition. The car runs and drives, but a number of consumable items now require attention—these include perished hoses and suspension components. We are offering the car for sale in its current condition, allowing us to price it attractively. This makes it an excellent opportunity for an enthusiast who would like to undertake the recommissioning work themselves, or for a buyer who may wish for us to complete the work on their behalf.
